Springfield, Mo — A press conference by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates over the noon hour announced that Army Secretary Togo West and Admiral Vern Clark have been appointed to head an investigation on the Ft. Hood killings and the military's systems for identifying potential subversive and destructive activity within the military structure.
Admiral Vern Clark is the retired Chief of Naval Operations, having served as CNO and on the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2000-2005. He is the second-longest serving CNO in U.S. history.
Adm. Clark is a 1967 graduate of Evangel University (then college) having earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He has remained close to Evangel, speaking at Homecoming and Graduation on several occasions, as well as serving other functions. Adm. Clark was honored with Evangel's Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1989.
"The appointment of Admiral Clark to this important and highly visible position speaks volumes to the quality and character of his leadership," says Evangel University President Robert H. Spence. "As one of our distinguished alumni, we are proud that he has again been selected to serve our country with honor and distinction."
