Springfield, Mo — Eight students were awarded Evangel University’s highest service honor, the Silver Shield Award, at the Council of Commendation Banquet held Wednesday, Nov. 18.
The purpose of the award is to recognize and encourage Evangel students for meritorious Christian character and service. The recipients are nominated by Evangel student leaders, faculty or staff.
The Evangel University Council of Commendation evaluates the pool of nominees to choose the award winners. The intention of this committee is to provide a venue for awarding and affirming students for reasons other than solely academic or athletic accomplishments.
All award recipients received an engraved Cross pen from Evangel University and a commemorative certificate presented by President Robert H. Spence. They will also be given a white cord of honor at graduation.
“We have so many outstanding students at Evangel,” says Gina Rentschler, director of community life. “Being selected for this award speaks to the extraordinary effort demonstrated by these students. They are truly role models to all students on campus.”
