Springfield, Mo — Five Evangel University students and two faculty members recently attended the 2009 Missouri Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Convention at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake of Ozarks.
Along with Dr. Keith Hardy, chair of the physical education, recreation and exercise science department, and Donovan Nelson, assistant professor of physical education, the following students attended:
An awards banquet was held the last evening of the MOAHPERD Convention to recognize and honor outstanding future professionals from each college and university in the state.
Brittni Jessen, Ashlee Luko, and Shane Sauls were selected by Evangel University as recipients of the 2009 Future Professional Majors of the Year Award. Jessen is a senior physical education major from Rogersville, Mo., and Luko is a junior recreation major from Nixa, Mo.
The convention offered many seminars and workshops where students had opportunities to acquire information about current methods, trends, and issues related to physical education, recreation and exercise science. Students also had opportunities to speak with presenters and students from other colleges.
“Exposure at the state level provides a network environment for future job placements as well as student teaching opportunities,” Dr. Hardy said.
Expenses for the trip were curtailed by a grant from LifeWorks, a campus wide initiative to enhance and extend Evangel University’s commitment to the integration of faith, learning and living.
