Springfield, Mo. — Evangel University had planned to send several students to Haiti during spring break to assist Convoy of Hope in a humanitarian outreach. However, due to safety and security concerns brought about by the recent earthquake, travel plans for students have been put on hold.

Evangel will instead be giving students, staff and faculty the opportunity to make a difference by contributing to Convoy of Hope’s disaster recovery effort.

During chapel on Thursday, Jan. 21, a special gift will be collected to serve the people of Haiti. For only about 40¢, Convoy of Hope can provide a meal for a displaced Haitian. That incredible number is due to the fact that Convoy’s partnerships allow them to turn every $1 donated into $7 of aid delivered. The goal is to collect $4 per student as Convoy of Hope can use this gift to feed a victim of the earthquake for 10 days.

A gift of $40 can feed three people for a month. “I would like to encourage and challenge each member of the faculty or staff to donate 100 meals to Haiti relief,” said the Rev. John F. Plake, Evangel’s campus pastor and director of spiritual life.
