Springfield, Mo — The Evangel University SIFE team is partnering with the women’s and men’s basketball teams to alleviate hunger in southwest Missouri.
On Feb. 15, as a part of Campbell Soup Company’s “Let’s Can Hunger” initiative, SIFE will be collecting canned goods or a cash donation from fans attending the Evangel basketball games against Missouri Valley College. The donations, which will benefit the Ozarks Food Harvest, can be dropped off at the entrances to the Ashcroft Center during both games. The women’s game starts at 5:30 and the men’s game starts at 7:30 p.m.
Campbell’s “Let’s Can Hunger” program is an initiative that began last spring at the SIFE regional competitions. SIFE teams are challenged to create projects that tackle hunger problems with three goals: raising awareness about hunger relief, satisfying immediate hunger needs in local communities, and implementing long-term solutions that help hunger victims address the cause behind their needs.
Ozarks Food Harvest collects and distributes food to more than 350 hunger relief agencies across 29 counties in southwest Missouri.
“In a time when the negative impact of the economy focuses attention on the self, our goal is to encourage the community to be attentive of those around us who need help and then take action,” stated Elizabeth Fletcher, SIFE sponsor and chair of the Business Department.
