Springfield, Mo — Mixed media artist Emily Frost will have an exhibit titled “Suffering” on display March 4-31, 2010, at Evangel University, in the Barnett Fine Arts Gallery. The gallery is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
An opening reception will be held Thursday, March 4, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
There is no charge for admission, and the public is invited to attend.
Frost’s art forms of choice are collage and mixed media constructions, both popular language tools in 20th century art. She finds great satisfaction in making something new and unique from old discarded objects. “I enjoy giving new life and meaning to what others see only as junk,” Frost said. “For me these pieces become symbols of how God takes the imperfect pieces of our lives and makes out of them something of value.”
Frost earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in religious education from Wheaton College, and she studied design, drawing, painting and photography at Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, Mo.
Her artwork has appeared in numerous shows, local galleries, the Springfield (Mo.) Art Museum, and in many private collections including the Christian Life Commission, Citizens Memorial Hospital, Victory Mission and the Courts Redford School of Theology and Ministry at Southwest Baptist University.
Frost enjoys teaching art to physically challenged students and encouraging creativity in others through seminars and workshops.
“Through my work I seek to speak to what is true, to deal with issues that affect people around the world, to make more tangible the strength and fragility of life, to point out the beauty and turmoil within the human soul and to bring my heart in line with difficult issues that matter to God,” said Frost.
