Springfield, Mo — Fourteen members of Evangel’s Students in Free Enterprise presentation team competed in the 2010 SIFE USA Regional Competition in Rogers, Ark., on Tuesday, April 13. They came home with the grand prize for the Let’s Can Hunger competition and placed second runner up in League 4 of the regional competition.
The competition had SIFE teams representing 23 universities in five leagues. In addition to the competition, the students had the opportunity to attend a career fair and participate in job screening interviews.
Campbell’s Let’s Can Hunger program challenges SIFE teams to create projects that tackle hunger problems with three goals: raising awareness about hunger relief, satisfying immediate hunger needs in local communities and implementing long-term solutions that help hunger victims address the cause behind their needs.
Evangel’s Let’s Can Hunger projects included collecting food for the Ozarks Food Harvest at the annual Christmas concert and at a basketball game. In addition, they partnered with Convoy of Hope to help alleviate hunger in Guatemala City during a spring break service trip. Together they provided enough food for 270,000 meals and provided assistance and training for growing roof-top gardens.
The team’s Can Hunger report will be eligible for competition and recognition at the national conference to be held in Minneapolis, May 11-13.
Three Evangel Business Department faculty accompanied the team: Elizabeth Fletcher, Sam Walton Fellow and chair of the Business and Economics Department; Dr. Mark Maynard, Sam Walton Fellow and professor of business; and Dale Manke, associate professor of business.
The following students were on Evangel’s SIFE team:
