Work-Study
The Federal Work-Study program is an opportunity to earn funds that can help you pay for college.
Eligibility
Your eligibility must be established by completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.FAFSA.ed.gov. If you are awarded Federal Work-Study, it does not guarantee employment; it simply establishes eligibility. You have to apply and interview for available jobs (view current openings). There are a limited number of jobs, so apply early.
To determine if you are eligible to participate in the work-study program, see My Financial Aid for a list of your financial aid awards. Have your social security number and PIN available for log-in.
Job Opportunities
Job opportunities include employment on-campus as well as community service off-campus. You must find and interview for the job of your choice by contacting the employers who have open positions (view current openings). Students work an average of eight hours per week and are only allowed to have one work-study job at a time.
Before Starting
Prior to working, you must have your direct supervisor submit a work-study contract to the work-study coordinator. Students must also complete their employment paperwork in the HR office in Riggs Hall (309E). Failure to complete this step could delay payment.
W-4 completion: Download the W-4 tax form (pdf) and submit it to Evangel’s payroll office. If you have not worked at Evangel before, please review the First Time Workers guide.
Starting Your Job
Jobs begin the first day of classes each semester. Most departments will designate hours around your class schedule. If extra time is needed to study for a test, contact your supervisor so an arrangement can be made. See the First Job Guide for more information.
The Federal Work-Study program is a great opportunity to show your responsibility. You must consider your work-study position a profitable learning experience that prepares you for the future. In fact, the Financial Aid Office receives calls from prospective employers concerning students’ job evaluations while they were employed as a work-study.
Getting Paid
Pay starts at minimum wage and you can choose to have your pay automatically deposited into your student account by completing the Voluntary Deduction Form (pdf), or you can have it automatically deposited into your bank account by completing a Direct Deposit Form, available by contacting the Human Resources Department.
