James James had plans to go to a large state school, but he soon found that Evangel exceeded his expectations and enabled him to be involved in his favorite activities.
Class of 2011
Hometown: Springfield, Missouri
Major: Broadcast Journalism
When I was choosing colleges, I was deciding between a large state school and Evangel. I really wanted to be involved in sports as well. God put it on my heart to come here, and He has really opened the doors for me. Now I’m doing football and track here and majoring in broadcast journalism.
I really like working with video cameras—I like film. I want to be involved in sports broadcasting, not necessarily anchoring, but I’m interested in directing.
Learn more about ECTV, Evangel’s award-winning campus cable television station, all produced on campus by students.
I had decided a long time ago that I was going to leave Springfield. Since I stayed, I knew I wanted to live on campus, because I think it’s a completely different experience. I didn’t want to miss out on residence hall life.
I have some academic scholarships, a track scholarship, and I receive other types of financial aid.
Other colleges are not faith-based. Just coming here really helps you to grow in God and in your walk with Him. Also, it’s a really close-knit community. You bond with others through activities like intramurals.
Evangel has really small classes. If you ever need to talk to a professor, they’re definitely right there to talk to you. There’s always a professor there if you need someone to pray with you—they’re definitely willing to do that.
