Evangel University Student Profile

Michael

Michael

Class of 2010
Hometown: Lawton, Oklahoma
Major: Biblical Studies/Biblical Languages
Minor: English

Though Michael planned to be a Bible major, he believed a liberal arts education would prepare him for a more-effective ministry in the long run. After researching his options, he found Evangel University offered the best comprehensive education for his ministry and career goals.

As an Evangel student, Michael has challenged his time-management skills as an active member of the football team, student government and residence hall leadership.

You could have chosen a Bible college to study theology. What ultimately set Evangel apart for you?

I believe a liberal arts education is important in establishing a comprehensive worldview and a well-rounded education that is important for effective ministry. I was always drawn to Evangel because a couple of my family members had attended here in the past, and I thought it was the place for me. I also like the instant community the campus promotes.

Which residence hall do you live in?

I live in Krause hall and I am currently the devotions leader of Krause First South.

Did you receive financial aid?

Yes, from football as well as academic scholarships.

Did you visit Evangel before becoming a student?

Yes.

What are the benefits to attending a smaller university?

More intimate relationships with students and faculty.

What do you like about being an Evangel student?

I love the relationships with other students.

Have you had any internships or practicums yet?

I am currently interning at a church where I hope to gain valuable ministerial experience of preaching, mentoring and serving.

What kind of educational/service/leadership opportunities have you encountered?

I have been in Senate, Activities Board, been a devotions leader, a teacher’s assistant and been on the football team. I have learned to become slightly more organized in managing my schedule and have learned to budget my time wisely. It was fun presenting various bills to the Senate to improve our campus both functionally as well as aesthetically. I was also elected the senior class president.

What valuable experience have those positions given you?

The most important thing I’ve learned through my extra-curricular activities is the value of challenging myself by doing more than what I think I can handle. Growth does not arise from comfort, but rather trials.

What are your personal and career goals after college?

I plan on attending seminary after I leave EU to prepare me for a lifetime in vocational ministry.

What does it mean to you to pursue God’s calling?

To pursue God’s calling means to fulfill what God has ordained for you to do in life.

What are your top strengths and how do you use them?

My top strengths are Intellect, Input and Learner. I use them in my studies of the Bible by figuring out complicated issues and synthesizing apparent contradictory theses.

And finally, why should a prospective student choose Evangel?

Choose EU because it will rock your face off — and educate you too!
