Skyler is in her fifth year at Evangel and has experienced a little bit of everything as a student — playing for the volleyball team, serving in student government, meeting her husband and getting married. She now lives in the Perkin Apartments for married students.
Choosing Evangel was a pretty easy decision for me. I knew that I wanted to play volleyball, and I wanted to stay close to home. It was a great fit for me.
I love the small atmosphere that Evangel provides. Also, I found the two great loves of my life while attending Evangel: God and my husband. Evangel is a place where people are constantly pouring into one's spiritual life. I was surronded by a roommate and teammates who helped me grow in relationship with Christ. I have met some of the best people I know at Evangel. They are true friends who invest in my life on a daily basis.
Yes, I received the Presidential Scholarship, as well as an athletic scholarship and a department scholarship.
I was an accounting major for two years. During the summer after my sophomore year, I was a leader at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes leadership camp. It was an amazing week where I discovered God's will for my life. I knew I wanted to work with youth, and math is a field that always interested me in high school. So my major now is secondary math education.
I had the opportunity of being the captain for the women's volleyball team. Also, I was the Evangel Student Government Association treasurer for a year and a half.
I love that fact that every time I walk into the Science and Technology Department professors always greet me by my first name. Also, while I played volleyball at Evangel, I would see one or two of my professors in the stands. The dorm life was an awesome way to get connected to other people. Because students are required to live on campus, a person has the opportunity to meet many of the students who are studying their same major outside the classroom setting.
I want to get a job teaching high school math. While teaching, I plan to coach volleyball. Also, I intend to pursue my master's in education administration and my doctorate degree. I would love to be a principal later on in my career. My personal goals include becoming a mom someday and to invest in the lives of my students.
Evangel offers a unique experience. It is a place to expereience Christ in every aspect of one's life. Evangel prepares students to incorporate their Christian faith in jobs, not only in the field of ministry, but also in professions outside the Church.
