How did Evangel/CBC/AGTS give you your start?

At CBC I received a BA in Christian Education. I  was launched into my calling to promote & expand education in the local church setting. I continued in that emphasis including working in the SS Department at AG Headquarters. At AGTS I received a MA in Bible & Theology. I was launched into my calling to serve as a Lead Pastor. I pastored 4 churches ranging in size from 200 to 1500 in weekend attendance.

Why are you serving on the board?

I believe strongly in Christ-centered higher education.

How did Evangel/CBC/AGTS give you your start?

By attending Evangel I was able to grow and mature in a secure Christian setting where I became strong in my faith and no matter what I came up against in my life, I always knew that Jesus was Lord of my life and the events around me.

Why are you serving on the board?

I wanted to serve on the board to bring back to Evangel some of the concerns and opinions of other alums who do not get back to campus and I wanted to have some part in the future of Evangel.

How did Evangel/CBC/AGTS give you your start?

My undergraduate years at Evangel prepared me to think critically from a Christian worldview, to communicate effectively, to find my way to a career in law, to pursue excellence and strive to live out the gospel in all that I do … and Evangel also introduced me to my best friend and wife of 43 years, Sharon Nelsen Holt (EC – ’74). It is no exaggeration for me to say that Evangel – and professors like my mentor, the late Dr. Nonna Dalan, then chair of the Speech & Drama Department – dramatically influenced my life.

Why are you serving on the board?

Because I was asked and I am very grateful for the foundation Evangel gave me in life, and I want to work with the board in finding ways to help our alumni to better identify and connect with today’s consolidated Evangel University and to support its mission of spirit led education that has profoundly impacted all who have attended one or more of the University’s constituent schools.

How did Evangel/CBC/AGTS give you your start?

Evangel will always be credited as having equipped me not only for the career that I would chose but for helping me understand the calling that each of us are given.  I learned our “major” in life will always be PEOPLE… and the “minor” is always the gifts God gives us to reach them.  Evangel was blessed with a Christ-centered faculty that embraced teaching as a ministry and the students as the mission field.  There was true compassion for equipping us for LIFE.

Why are you serving on the board?

Although I am new to the ABOD… I would like to give back to EU and help to move the university forward in equipping young people for the “calling” that God has given them to fulfill.  I believe Jeremiah 29:11 is His promise to us… and EU is a stepping stone to get there.

How did Evangel/CBC/AGTS give you your start?

My parents graduated from CBC, so I guess that is one start.  Beyond that, Evangel provided me a great education, but it was really the personal attention and real life instruction I received from my professors that provided me the opportunity to start my career with Price Waterhouse.

Why are you serving on the board?

I love Evangel and want to see it continue to grow and be successful.  In order for this to happen, we need the alumni of Evangel, CBC and AGTS to be connected and supportive, and serving on the board allows me to contribute in making this happen.

How did Evangel/CBC/AGTS give you your start?

EU introduced me to “Faith” as it applies in the real world.  Having grown up in the church I had never given much thought to how my faith would work in the professional arena.  How to integrate my Christian walk with a secular career.  Evangel have me great insight on this matter through course work, professors, and fellow students.  (I’ve never been very good at expressing myself through the written word so feel free to word smith this if you need to.)

Why are you serving on the board?

When asked, I decided to serve because it was such an exciting and formative time for Evangel.  I wanted to play a part in the consolidation and transition to a new President.

Alex BryantAlex Bryant

How did Evangel/CBC/AGTS give you your start?

Evangel taught me so much!  It really taught me how to integrate my faith with my learning.  Evangel really taught me how to learn.  I was able to leave with a double major in Business Management and Biblical Studies.  The business degree gave me an early start in the business world and prepared me to advance in the competitive business world even more so than graduates from other schools.  And the Biblical Studies degree helped prepare me for my time as a pastor.  Professors at Evangel made sure that I left EU with the knowledge to enter the work force and do well and with the confidence to work alongside others and become a leader!

Why are you serving on the board?

I want to give back to Evangel and help others have the same positive experience that I had at Evangel.

Mark JahnkeMark Jahnke
Evangel University ’02
Retirement specialist at Yokley Financial in Naperville, IL

How did Evangel/CBC/AGTS give you your start?

Evangel provided me the spiritual foundation and quality education I needed to start my life as a successful adult. The small class sizes and extra curricular activities at the university gave me the opportunity to saturate myself in experience. I was able to volunteer and sharpen my abilities in the field while engineering Crusader basketball and football games. I also gained valuable knowledge Producing Strobelite, running audio and camera for Newswatch, and setting up lights for Sports Update. These essential skills I learned while at school allowed me to thrive in my career. To this day, Evangel friends and professors are family. I even met and married my best friend Michelle (Myers, ’03) at Evangel. I say Evangel is a family because during Michelle’s fight with cancer Evangel prayed and supported us just like family. We would receive numerous calls from professors asking about updates and expressing their support and prayers. Evangel not only gave me a start but has been there to sustain me over the years.

Why are you serving on the board?

I’m serving on the board because I love Evangel and am excited to be involved.  I want to see Evangel to continue to have a substantial and long lasting impact around the community and the world.
