April 20, 2012 | Paul K. Logsdon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel junior Alyssa Amen of Omaha, Neb., was recently named Region IV representative for the Alpha Chi organization, placing her on the Alpha Chi National Council.

Amen was elected at the Alpha Chi Super-Regional Convention in Baltimore, Md., which took place March 22-24 and was attended by more than 400 students from seven AX regions. She will serve a two-year term from 2012-2014 as one of 22 council members. Amen also received a $500 scholarship from Region IV.

“As one of seven students on the AX National Council, I have the privilege and responsibility of voting on issues, voicing input and planning the 2013 national convention,” said Amen. “I am looking forward to working on this council to create a better experience for students at both the regional and national levels of AX.”

In addition, Alpha Chi Missouri Rho, Evangel’s AX chapter, received a Star Chapter Award and was nominated by Region IV to apply for the President’s Cup, the highest honor a chapter can receive. The chapter has received the award once before in 2009.

Three Evangel University students presented papers at the conference:

  • Alyssa Amen, junior government major, presented “Cracks in the Wall: Interpretational Shifts from the Establishment Clause in American Jurisprudence from 1947.”
  • Kayla Jordan, senior history and psychology double major from Ripley, Tenn., presented “Repetitive Revolutions: A Comparison of the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the Collapse of the Soviet Union.”
  • Jonathan Mussetter, music education graduate student from Richfield, Minn., presented “Educator Perceptions on the Effectiveness of Band Administration Preparation Programs.”

The team was led by 2009 Evangel graduate Meghan Musy, who currently serves as the coordinator of tutorial services for Evangel’s academic support center. Dr. Laynah Rogers, director of the academic support center, is the official sponsor of Alpha Chi Missouri Rho. Musy and Dr. Dale L. Scheusner are co-sponsors.
