May 8, 2012 | Paul K. Logsdon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Dr. Matt Stringer is the 2012 recipient of the Orville and Jewel Mills Young Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award was presented May 4 during Evangel University’s commencement ceremony.

“I am honored to be selected by my peers for this award,” Stringer said. “Individual awards help me reflect on recent accomplishments and serve as motivation for future projects.”

The Mills Award, which includes an unrestricted cash grant, was established by Orville and Jewel Mills to recognize professors under 45 years of age. Orville Mills is a retired comptroller of Exxon-Mobile and serves on the university board of directors. The couple’s three daughters are graduates of Evangel.

“I am thankful to Orville and Jewel Mills for the establishment of the award,” Stringer said.

Stringer serves as associate professor of education at Evangel, having begun work here in the fall of 2001.

He holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership from Missouri University, a master’s degree in secondary administration from Missouri State University and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry education from Evangel.

Along with teaching and advising students, Stringer is the coordinator of graduate studies in education and serves on many committees and teams including the Ad Hoc Committee for Online Education, Graduate Education Council, Graduate Education Committee, General Education Redesign Teams, Graduate Studies Management Team and Faculty Affairs Committee. He also is the Student Missouri State Teachers Association (SMSTA) sponsor for Evangel.

Stringer also is a member of the following professional and academic associations: Nixa Parent Teachers Association, Student Missouri State Teachers Association (Advisor), Southwest Curriculum Directors, P20 Council of the Ozarks, Missouri Professors of Educational Administration and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.
