SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University Symphonic Band will perform a concert on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel auditorium.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The band is under the direction of Dr. Michael Kolstad, music department chair. For this performance, the band will be conducted by Kolstad and Jon Mussetter, assistant band director and music education grad student.

“The concert will be an outstanding showcase for our students,” Kolstad said. “The program is very enjoyable and challenging. There will be something for everyone . . . marches, music from the movies, and even a polka! It will be a fun evening.”

The band will play the following pieces:

  • The Hounds of Spring, by Alfred Reed
  • The Thunderer, by John Philip Sousa
  • Pie-in-the-Face Polka, by Henry Mancini
  • Epitaph, by Bill Locklear
  • A Brass Thing, Mvt. III, from Serenada Schizophrana, by Danny Elfman
  • Enchanted Spaces, by Samuel Hazo
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, by Hans Zimmer

Pie in the Face Polka will feature two EU clarinet players, graduate student Robin Silva and junior Christina Beatie.

Silva will be one of the first music graduate students to complete studies at Evangel. She is slated to graduate this May.

Beatie will be a drum major for the Evangel University Marching Band next fall.
