Evangel University Music Department releases fall schedule

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University Music Department has released its fall schedule of performances. The schedule begins with a performance by a world-renowned instrumental duo and concludes with the annual Christmas concert.

Barnett Recital Hall

The following events are free and open to the public and will take place in the Barnett Recital Hall. This hall is located on the first floor of the Barnett Fine Arts Center, and visitors can enter through the doors south of the chapel facing Glenstone Avenue.

September 23: Faculty Trumpet Recital, 7:30 p.m.

Tim Wootton, Evangel University adjunct professor, will perform a trumpet recital.

September 26: The Cavatino Duo, 7:30 p.m.

The 2013-14 Artist Series gets under way with a performance by a duo consisting of Eugenia Moliner, flutist, and Denis Azabagic, guitarist. They have performed in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Chicago Symphony Center.

October 3: Jazz Orchestra Concert, 8 p.m.

The Jazz Orchestra, comprised of Evangel University students and directed by Joel Griffin, assistant professor of music and director of jazz studies, will perform their fall concert as a featured part of EU’s homecoming festivities.

November 5: Jazz Combo Concert, 7:30 p.m.

December 10: Jazz Orchestra Concert, 7:30 p.m

New for this year, the Jazz Orchestra will perform a special Christmas concert, featuring guest jazz vocalist Kate Jones. The concert will be directed by Joel Griffin, assistant professor of music and director of jazz studies.

 Chapel

(Facing Glenstone Avenue and located south of Riggs Hall.)

November 7: Chorus and Chorale Concert, 7:30 p.m.

Evangel University’s Chorus and Chorale will perform in a joint concert.  Tom Matrone, associate professor of music, directs the chorus and chorale.

November 12: Orchestra Concert, 7:30 p.m.

The EU orchestra will perform their fall concert with songs chosen and directed by Dr. Larry Dissmore.

December 6: Christmas Concert, 7:45 p.m.

The annual Christmas concert is a Springfield-area favorite and will feature the EU Chorale, Chorus, Orchestra and multiple ensembles from the Springfield area. This event is open to the public, and those attending are encouraged to provide a donation to benefit the Salvation Army. The concert is directed by Dr. Michael Kolstad, chair of the music department.

Additionally, the EU Marching Band will perform during halftime at all Evangel home football games at JFK Stadium, including the homecoming game that will be played at Plaster Sports Complex.

Four seniors in the music department also will perform senior recitals during the fall semester. These recitals are scheduled throughout October, November and December. Visit www.evangel.edu for more information on recitals.
