SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –– Evangel University has expanded its annual Horton Pentecostal Lectureship Series. Now in its sixth year, the series will include three events featuring speakers affiliated with Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Central Bible College and Evangel University.

The first lecturer will be Dr. Russell Spittler, Ph.D., a distinguished theologian who taught at Central Bible College from 1958-1962. He will speak Thursday-Friday, Nov. 21-22, in the Spence Chapel at 10 a.m. on both mornings.

Spittler also will speak at 6 p.m. Thursday evening, Nov. 21, in Zimmerman Hall, Room 105. He will share the twelve books that most shaped his life.

The sessions are free and open to the public.

Throughout his career, Spittler has served as a chaplain, editor, pastor, professor and author. For 27 years, Spittler was a faculty member at Fuller Theological Seminary, retiring in 2002 as provost emeritus and emeritus professor of New Testament. He then went on to serve as provost of Vanguard University until 2007.

The second and third events will feature the following:

  • Dr. Del Tarr, former president of AGTS, Feb. 6-7
  • Dr. Ruth Burgess, former faculty member at Evangel and Missouri State University, March 13-14

About the series

The Horton Pentecostal Lectureship Series is an annual lecture series sponsored by Evangel University in honor of Dr. Stanley Horton, a renowned scholar, author and lecturer on the subject of Pentecostalism. He has authored dozens of books and manuals and published more than 250 articles and book reviews.

Horton is a distinguished professor emeritus of Bible and theology at Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.

“The lectureship series was launched at Evangel in 2008 to recognize Dr. Horton’s lifetime accomplishments as an author, professor and the chief intellectual architect/spokesperson for the Pentecostal doctrine for the Assemblies of God,” said Dr. Robert H. Spence, university president.
