SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Senior music education major Katelyn Lawler will perform her violin recital on Friday, Jan. 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall. Admission is free, and the public is welcome to attend.
She will be accompanied by junior Desiree Bonitz, who is a music performance major. Bonitz and Lawler have played together before in university orchestra, concert orchestra, jazz band and marching band.

Lawler will play a duet on Six Sonatas for Two Violins- Sonata II 1st Movement with Dr. Larry Dissmore, concert orchestra director, and a duet on Concerto in D minor for Two Violins, BWV 1043 with her childhood violin teacher, Robin Walden.
Lawler started learning the violin when she was five years old from Walden and continued these lessons with Dissmore when she came to Evangel University. She said that after graduation she aspires to start music programs in Title I schools, giving opportunity to those who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to play an instrument.
“I want to make this recital not about me, but about the people who have helped me get to where I am today,” Lawler said.
“I am dedicating several songs to my violin teachers and to my grandparents who have passed on.”
Lawler is the daughter of Jay and Lisa Lawler of Quincy, Ill. She is a 2010 graduate of Quincy High School.
