February 26, 2014 | Kim Jeyaraj

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Three business students from Evangel University attended a student leadership conference sponsored by the Institution of Management Accountants (IMA). The conference was held on Feb. 8 at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo.

The following students attended the conference:

  • Jacob Stancer, senior accounting major from Ozark, Mo.
  • Daylea DuVall, senior accounting major from Cabot, Ark.
  • Rachel Lewis, senior management major from Springfield, Mo.

“Attending this conference has provided me with the knowledge to achieve the goals of group activities effectively and efficiently,” said Jacob Stancer. “It was significant because I was able to get a better grasp on CMA credentialing, how to hold meetings and use appropriate forms of communications in the workplace.”

The Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential is a professional certification that proves the recipient demonstrates critical accounting and financial management skills needed in today’s business world.

“We are delighted to sponsor the attendance of three students at the IMA Student Leadership Conference,” said Bernie Dana, professor and chair of business. “This gives our students a better grasp of the opportunities and certifications available in corporate accounting.”

The conference was organized by the Heartland Council of IMA and was attended by accounting students from Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Illinois and Kansas. This is the first IMA conference that Evangel students have attended.

“The IMA conference was definitely worth my time. I was especially inspired and motivated by the keynote speakers’ journey through the accounting/business world,” said Daylea DuVall. “I would recommend that all accounting majors attend this conference.”
