Evangel University Concert Choir to tour and perform on the East Coast, March 1-11

February 28, 2014 | Valorie Coleman

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Evangel University Concert Choir, directed by Sharon Wilkins, will travel throughout the East Coast during spring break.

***See Tour Schedule below

The ensemble, which is comprised of 37 students, will travel to Ohio, Virginia, New York and Connecticut to perform in concerts and services.

“This tour is very special because we have so many students from the East Coast and will be singing in many of their home churches,” Wilkins said. “This ensemble represents many different academic majors on campus, and together they blend their voices, their hearts and their individual gifts for ministry and for recruitment for EU. We are anticipating a wonderful trip.”

The performances will include the following pieces:

  • Holy is the Lord, by Franz Schubert, John B. Dykes and Ralph Manuel
  • Holy Radiant Light, by Alexander Gretchaninov
  • It is Well With My Soul, by Mark Hayes
  • Jesus, My Lord, My Life, My All, by Henry Collins and Bob Burroughs
  • The Lord Bless You and Keep You, by John Rutter
  • The Majesty and Glory of Your Names, by Linda Lee Johnson and Tom Fettke
  • My God is a Rock, by Ken Berg
  • Nearer My God to Thee, by James Stevens
  • When I Survey, by Gaither Vocal Band
  • Run To You, by Pentatonix

During the past 28 years, the concert choir has toured in the 48 contiguous states, Canada, the Bahamas and 15 countries in Europe. In addition, the choir has performed at the Missouri Music Educators Conference; has been honored with solo performances at Carnegie Hall in 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2008; and has performed for President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Wilkins, associate professor of music, has served on the Evangel University faculty since 1984.
