SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Dr. Don Johns, associate dean of the School of Theology and Church Ministries (STCM) at Evangel University, has been selected by the Higher Learning Commission to serve on their Institutional Actions Council.

Johns’ appointment is for a four-year term, beginning Sept. 1, 2014.

“The good work Don is doing on the national accreditation scene expands the visibility and influence of Evangel University,” said Dr. David Bundrick, STCM dean.

The Higher Learning Commission is an independent corporation and one of two commission members of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The NCA is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. The Higher Learning Commission accredits degree-granting, post-secondary educational institutions in the North Central region.

The Board of Trustees of the Commission appoints and authorizes members of the Institutional Actions Council to conduct reviews and take actions on the majority of accreditation recommendations.

Johns also was recently named vice-chair of the Commission on Accreditation by the Association for Biblical Higher Education.

The ABHE is a North American agency consisting of approximately 200 post-secondary institutions specializing in biblical ministry formation and professional leadership education.
