Evangel University honors President Robert H. Spence with events April 22-24

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel University will honor President Robert H. Spence this week with activities and events, April 22-24. He completes his 40 years of service as president on April 30 and assumes his new role as university chancellor on May 1. Also effective May 1, Dr. Carol Taylor, currently president-elect/CEO, becomes president of Evangel University.

TUESDAY, APRIL 22

On Tuesday, April 22, Spence will speak during Evangel’s chapel for the last time as president. Afterward, a student reception with President and Anne Spence will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Crusader Dining Hall.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23

Faculty and staff will have opportunity to greet the Spence’s during a reception on Wednesday, April 23, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Crusader Dining Hall.

THURSDAY, APRIL 24

The week’s activities will culminate with a reception and dinner on Thursday evening, April 24. The reception will be held in the Riggs Hall administration building atrium at 5:30 p.m.

The dinner will take place in Crusader Dining Hall and begins at 6:30 p.m.

Special presentations will be made by Dr. George Wood, chairman of the Evangel Board of Trustees and general superintendent of the Assemblies of God; the Honorable Bob Stephens, Springfield mayor; and Sue Ellen Ball, Southwest Missouri district director for Senator Roy Blunt.

Speakers will include the following:

  • John Twitty, former general manager at City Utilities of Springfield
  • Denny Duron, founding coach of Evangel Crusader football
  • Herbert Cooper, alumus and pastor, People’s Church, Oklahoma City, Okla.
  • George Crawford, former vice president of business, Evangel University
