SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel University will host its first Fine Arts Prep Day on Feb. 6-7, for junior high and high school students who plan to enter Assemblies of God District Fine Arts competitions this spring.
Each year, more than 65,000 students compete in the District and National Fine Arts Festivals. Students may enter as many as 66 categories offered in eight main divisions: Art, Communication, Dance, Drama, Exhibition, Instrumental, Vocal and Writing.
- The Prep Day is a free event where students will attend workshops, a showcase of Evangel University performance groups and other presentations, and a meet-and-greet with past national merit award winners.
- For a fee of $20, students will also have the opportunity to be evaluated by National Fine Arts judges, fine arts merit award winners and Evangel University faculty in a mock Fine Arts Festival setting.
“The Fine Arts Festival approach encourages the discovery, development and deployment of young talent,” said Doug Jenkins, director of CBC alumni and church relations. “And that’s what we do at Evangel on a daily basis: encourage the development of young talent.”

Evangel’s Fine Arts Prep Day has been scheduled in conjunction with an EU Preview weekend, when other prospective students will be visiting the campus from around the USA.

Friday, Feb. 6
- 8:00 a.m. – Registration
- 8:15 a.m. – Welcome session
- 8:30 a.m. – Campus Tour hosted by the EU Admissions team
- 10:00 a.m. – Chapel, seated with an EU Student Host
- 11:00 a.m. – Class visit
- 12:00 p.m. – Lunch
- 1:00 p.m. – Q and A with Admissions and Student Financial Service
- 2:00 p.m. – Academic Department Information Sessions
- 4:30 p.m. – Showcase of Fine Arts Presentations and Departments
- 6:00 p.m. – Dinner for those staying on campus
- 7:00 p.m. – Workshop with National Merit Award winners
Saturday, Feb. 7
- 8:00 a.m. – Breakfast
- 8:30 a.m. – Workshop, hosted by National Fine Arts Judges
- 9:30 a.m. – Evaluations begin ($20 fee for evaluations)
