SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University Orchestra will perform its fall concert on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m., under the direction of Dr. Larry Dissmore, professor of music.

The concert is free and the public is encouraged to attend. It will be held in the Robert H. Spence Chapel Auditorium.

The major work on the program for this 46-piece orchestra will be Beethoven’s ever-popular Symphony No. 5 in C Minor.

The University Orchestra will also pay tribute to the nation’s veterans with a performance of Aaron Copland’s, Letter from Home.

In addition, Emily Engebretson, Master of Music student, will be the featured soloist in Fantasie Pastorale Hongroise by Franz Doppler.

The University Orchestra is comprised of student musicians pursuing majors in music, as well as students in the variety of other fields available at Evangel. The orchestra performs 5-6 times during the school year and frequently collaborates with other ensembles at the University in the performance of oratorios, musicals and operas.

In the fall of 2010, Engebretson enrolled at Evangel University and immediately became a part of the Concert Band and Concert Orchestra. She later became involved with the University Orchestra and the Marching Band.

While studying for her bachelor’s degree in music performance, she gave three recitals and traveled throughout the United States and Europe with the Concert Orchestra.

Engebretson graduated from Evangel in 2014, and chose to continue her education in EU’s Master in Music Performance degree program that fall. In the past year, she has performed another solo recital and played in the Theatre Department’s spring production of Annie Get Your Gun.

In addition to her work as a student, Emily is an active free-lance performer. She plays in the Marshfield Community Theatre pit orchestra, frequently plays for weddings, and has also appeared as a performer in Springfield’s First Friday Art Walks.

Engebretson will graduate with the Master of Music degree in the spring of 2017 and hopes to secure a position in a symphony or theatre orchestra.

The Evangel University Department of Music offers a variety of degree programs in music, including music performance, music education, music business, recording technology and worship leadership. The department also offers two master’s degrees — in music education and music performance.
