SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University Humanities Department will present Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias, Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 19 to 21, at 7 p.m. in the Barnett Fine Arts Theater.
Tickets are $10 per person, and groups of 10 or more can purchase their tickets for $7 each. The student rate is also $7 per person.
Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.evangel.edu/departments/humanities/more-information/theatre-program/theatre-tickets/ or at the door. The department does encourage online purchase to alleviate long lines at the box office, which will open at 6:30 p.m. before each performance.
The production of Steel Magnolias is being directed by Katie Claire Stanford, a senior theatre major from Iota, La., as part of her degree requirements.
The cast and crew consist of Evangel students ranging from seniors to first-semester freshmen. The students involved come from a variety of academic departments, as participation is open to all Evangel students.

The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, La., where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done.
Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, (“I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years”); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy.”
Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play draws on the underlying strength — and love — which give [it] and it’s characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny, and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.
