April 19, 2016 | Paul K. Logsdon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University Enactus team was judged a Regional Champion at the Enactus Regional Competition in Rogers, Ark., on April 18th. The event involved 25 universities and community colleges from 11 states.

Evangel will now advance to the final USA competition, at the Enactus National Exposition in St. Louis, Mo., on May 15-17.

Enactus (formerly known as Students in Free Enterprise) holds six regional competitions scattered throughout the United States to determine which teams will advance to the National competition. There are 443 active teams in the U.S., engaging 16,800 college students in more than 1,000 community projects.

Evangel team projects

Evangel’s Enactus team shared with the panel of 23 corporate judges their involvement in eight projects that fulfill the Enactus mission to use entrepreneurial action to improve the livelihoods of people.

Their projects included working with Harmony House to enhance promotions and marketing; helping raise sustainable funding for Weller Elementary’s “Cents of Pride” store; and creating a plan to implement recycling on the Evangel campus.

Evangel’s team generates support for its projects by selling Survival Kits to parents, which are delivered to their students during midterms and final exams. Entrepreneurial action this year increased the Survival Kit business profits by 231% to over $10,000.

“I could not be more proud of our team of 45 students who have worked so diligently this year on projects that are having a meaningful impact on our community,” said Bernie Dana, Enactus Sam Walton Fellow and chair of the Evangel Business Department.

Evangel’s seven-person presentation team included of Josh Clark from Willard, Mo.; Hannah Davis from Houston, Texas; Lindsey Ellis from Kingston, Mass.; Meredith Kyle from Loveland, Colo.; Daniel Philpot from Owasso, Okla.; Kirren Siewert from Elizabeth, Colo.; and Baylee Teague from Elkgrove, Calif.

Sixteen Evangel students and two faculty advisors attended the Enactus competetion in Rogers.
