Mills Award: Mark Fabian honored with Young Faculty Award for Excellence

July 27, 2017 | Paul K. Logsdon

The students and faculty at Evangel University have honored Dr. Mark Fabian, assistant professor of biblical studies and director of digital learning, for his outstanding accomplishments as a young member of the EU faculty.

The Orville & Jewel Mills Young Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship and Service was presented on May 5, during the 59th Annual Commencement Ceremony.

Orville and Jewel Mills established the Mills Award in 2006 to recognize outstanding professors who are less than 45 years of age. It includes an unrestricted cash grant. Orville Mills is a retired comptroller of ExxonMobil and serves on the university board of trustees. The couple’s three daughters are graduates of Evangel.

Mark taught as an adjunct at Evangel for several years, before transitioning to full time in 2013.

“Mark has a unique role among our faculty,” said President Carol Taylor as she presented the award. “He teaches courses in our theology programs, and at the same time, he holds the title of director of digital learning. Mark is one of the leaders of academic innovation and is the point person for educational technology on our campus.”

As the technology guru, Fabian works with faculty and departments across the campus to provide professional development, coordination, and support for the implementation of EU’s digital learning initiatives. He also prepares faculty to construct and conduct online courses for Evangel.

Fabian considers it a joy and honor to “teach the teachers” of Evangel University. He said, “I am a product of this community, and it’s a distinct honor to work alongside faculty who once upon a time invested in me as a student.”

Outside of Evangel, Mark is a member of the leadership team at Life360 Church in Springfield.

He and his wife, Rebecca, have three children. Their son, Braedon, is a senior at Evangel with a double major in management and marketing, and their daughters are future EU students.
