Pre-Physician Assistant
Bachelor of Science in Biology or Biological Chemistry (Pre-Physican Assistant Track)
A physician assistant (PA) is a health care provider who practices medicine under the supervision of a physician. The clinical roles of PAs include primary and specialty care in medical and surgical practice settings in rural and urban areas. A PA’s duties can include: performing a physical exam and taking a medical history, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, diagnosing and treating illnesses, recommending and prescribing medications and drug therapies, suturing wounds, setting fractures, and assisting in surgeries. Our Pre-PA program is designed to help students succeed in gaining acceptance to a physician assistant program after graduating from Evangel.
The Evangel University Department of Science and Technology is dedicated to the spiritual, academic and social growth of every student. The department’s purpose is to provide an excellent scientific education that is thoroughly integrated with the University’s emphasis on the development of strong Christian character. Within this framework, students must contend with new scientific, social, ethical and technological challenges. Students learn to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively and exhibit analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Our pre-PA curriculum is tailored to provide the knowledge that students need for graduate school. Most pre-PA students choose a major in biology or biological chemistry. Since most PA programs require extensive medical care experience for admission into their programs, pre-PA students are encouraged to arrange for as many hours of medical care experience as possible. We assist our students in helping to gain these hours, which can include working as an aide or shadowing a physician assistant.

| Microbiology | Study of microorganisms and their growth and control. Emphasis on bacteria of medical importance, aseptic lab procedures, and care in the medical environment. |
| Human Anatomy & Physiology I | Introduction to the study of human anatomy and physiology with an emphasis on the roles of homeostasis and pathology and their interactions. |
| Human Anatomy & Physiology II | Second half of the introductory course in human anatomy and physiology with an emphasis on the roles of homeostasis and pathology and their interactions. |
| Molecular and Classical Genetics | Genetics topics that were covered broadly in general biology are studied in depth. Emphasis is placed on linking classical transmission genetics, molecular genetics, human genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics. |
| Biochemistry | Chemistry related to life processes in plants and animals, including enzymes and metabolism as well as carbohydrate, lipid, protein, and nucleic acid chemistry. |

| Faith | As a boldly Christian university, all of our students have made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. |
| Diploma | Graduation from high school, or having the equivalent of a high school diploma such as the General Education Development (GED) examination. |
| Core Subjects | A minimum of a 2.0 GPA in core college prep classes (English, math, social sciences and science with a lab) |
| Grade Average | A "C" average. However, in some cases, a student with a weak academic record may be considered. To remain at Evangel, however, the student must meet scholastic requirements. |
