Recreation and Sport Management
Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Sport Managment
The Recreation and Sport Management program prepares those interested in the business and operations of sports programs to administrate activities for both organizations and patrons. Students who imagine a career spent in professional or collegiate sports on the business side should consider this program. A Recreation and Sport Management degree can provide the reality of working in sports, along with the flexibility of a balanced education based on business as it applies to athletics.
Recreation and sport managers carry out the business and service skills they learn in a variety of organizational settings. These skills can be exercised in environments such as collegiate sports, professional sports, amateur sports, sports marketing and management firms, arenas/stadiums and civic centers, community and social service sports programs and private club sports programs, just to name a few. The program is built around classroom lecture, study, discussion, internships and hands-on activities outside the classroom, and is focused on preparing graduates for work available in the field of recreation and all related athletics. We also have an extensive network for job placement during and after college including professional teams, collegiate athletic programs, parks and recreation departments and non-profit/for-profit organizations. Students will develop leadership skills, outdoor skills, marketing and facility management and then put everything together through a related internship. Through it all, students gain a solid foundation for how the organization works in a recreation/sport setting, and how to add value in their chosen field upon graduation.
