Phil Farrand (’81): Author and creator of Finale music notation software


Phil Farrand has had a varied career as an author, computer programmer, consultant and musician. An alum of Central Bible College, perhaps his most well-known accomplishment is creating the software program Finale.

Finale is considered the industry leader in music notation software. It is used by musicians and educators worldwide to compose, arrange and publish music. Academy Award-nominated films such as Million Dollar Baby, The Aviator, Spider-Man 2, Sideways, Polar Express and The Passion of the Christ were all scored with Finale.

Farrand also penned a popular series of Nitpicker’s Guides books breaking down various science fiction television programs.
