Big scholarship giveaway: 20 students who apply by November 15 to receive $1,000 awards

Now that the school year is officially underway for a new class of Evangel University freshmen, it’s time for high school seniors all over the country to start the exciting college-admissions process in preparation for the fall of 2014.
And the best time to apply is now.
Evangel University opened the online application to seniors on Saturday, September 1. In a matter of minutes, students can access the application from the website and be well on their way to enrollment.
There are several advantages for students who apply early, according to Brittney Grantham, Evangel’s interim director of undergraduate admissions. “The key date to keep in mind is November 15,” she says.
Why November 15? There are two big reasons.
“First, we waive the fee for all students who submit an application by November 15, and second, those students will also be eligible to win a piece of the $20,000 scholarship giveaway for early applicants,” Grantham says.
The $20,000 will be divided into 20 individual $1,000 scholarships and recipients will be chosen randomly from the early applications submitted. More information on the $1,000 Scholarship Giveaway.
Advantages of applying early
In addition to the fee waiver and scholarship giveaway, Evangel’s admissions counselors say that there are several important reasons for submitting college applications early. Early applicants receive priority housing and scholarship opportunities, which become more limited for students who have delayed their applications.
For example, Evangel’s Founders Scholarship, the most prestigious academic scholarship Evangel offers, is only eligible to students who have been accepted by January 12. Funds are limited for many of the other departmental and institutional awards that are available, so students who have applied and been accepted early will likely receive better award packages, says Lead Financial Aid Counselor Hector Cruz.
“When you apply early, you have many more options when it comes to financial aid, particularly with outside scholarships,” Cruz says. “Outside scholarship deadlines are coming and going throughout the year. A majority of the deadlines fall within the months of November, December and January. It is essential to get your application in early so that you can maximize the number of outside awards that are available to you.”
Early application is also important for student athletes who would like to play on scholarship, says Admissions Counselor Jon Jenkins. All of our athletic programs have a scholarship budget,” he says. “By applying early a student has a better chance of getting on a coach’s radar while they still have scholarship money left in their budget. Even the best athletes can miss out on some or all of their scholarship potential if they wait too long to get in touch with the coaches.”
Once students submit an application, they will be assigned to an admissions counselor who will be available to walk them through the process and answer questions along the way. “Building a relationship with your admissions counselor early on is very helpful to many students,” says Grantham. “Our ACs want to see as many students as possible find a way to attend Evangel and will gladly work with you throughout the process.”
