Tell us about your career and what you do now.

I am a surgical device sales representative. I go into the operating room for different types of surgery including laparoscopic surgery and orthopedic surgery to support the surgeon and staff when my company’s device(s) are being used. I sell new products/technology to hospitals and surgeons. My territory includes SW Missouri, SE Kansas, and NE Arkansas.

What is your favorite memory from EU?

Dating the girl that would become my wife would have to rank at the top. But my time in Scott Hall – all five years – was great, such as making lifelong friendships, competing in intramurals together, etc. Also, my five years playing football were an integral part of my time at EU.

How did EU help you identify/develop your calling?

The great thing about Evangel is you really discover who you are, what your strengths are and how to apply these to your future. I had some great professors like Dr. Calvin Holsinger, Dr. E.J. Arnold, Coach Scott Metcalf, and others who took time to invest in me, as a person, to help me realize my potential.

How did your experience at EU prepare you for life after graduation?

You grow up a lot in four or five years. The overall experience of Evangel – classes, dorm life, athletics, activities and friends — set me up for life after graduation. That is not to say that life has never had challenges, but the foundation that Evangel provided played a role in setting us up for success.

What advice would you give a current student preparing for the workforce?

Listen to your parents, they generally know what they are talking about. Go for your dreams and passions but understand that sometimes God has a different plan. I was a History Education major and PE minor. I taught and coached for eight years and loved it. However, now I go into the operating room and educate surgeons and nurses. Life ebbs and flows. Study hard, lean on your professors, and network like crazy (often it’s who you know, not necessarily what you know). Simply smile and have enthusiasm.

What would you look for if you were in a position to hire new graduates from EU/AGTS?

I would look at their background, overall experience, and for a well-rounded individual. Someone who is a hard worker, who has overcome some challenges, who has persistence and willingness to work hard without a sense of entitlement.
