I’ve experienced one earthquake – just a very slight tremor – and it happened in Wichita, Kansas. That moment of slight seismic activity satisfied a lifetime of curiosities. I need no further displays!
The surface of the earth floats on a subterranean layer called the asthenosphere. Twelve or 13 massive slabs of surface earth (called tectonic plates) slowly but constantly move – whether oceanic or continental. When these plates shift, grind, or collide with greater force than normal, the collision releases a wave of energy that travels through the Earth’s crust. Geologists call those seismic waves tremors. I see a spiritual application in this geological process.
Recent Homecoming Activities highlighted the rich histories of three separate institutions, now merged into one university system. We welcomed scores of graduates who have already caused positive spiritual tremors in their generations. These alums returned to celebrate EU’s 70th birthday. Those graduates, and many of their compatriots, have lived effective, Spirit-filled lives. A Springfield based, General Council education/training institution (EU, AGTS, CBC, or a combination) provided them with a healthy spiritual foundation.
I visited with many of those homecoming guests. Each one expressed two of their top highlights of Homecoming as 1) Seeing life-time friends and former classmates 2) The Spirit-filled chapel service. That brings us back to spiritualizing tectonic plates.
I suggest, in these past few years, spiritual tectonic plates have shifted in and around our Springfield university. I joined other Homecoming alumni that participated with the on-campus student body chapel. We experienced intense worship and inspiring declaration of the Scriptures. This emerging generation is ready for, and experiencing a fresh release of, Holy Spirit energy. As they graduate into their lives of missionary work, marketplace careers, or church leadership, the release of Holy Spirit energy they are feeling on campus now will help propel them across this nation and world like hundreds of spiritual tremors. Instead of bringing destruction, chaos, and fear they will release hope, order, and healing.
Join the spiritual tectonic shift by praying for an intensified Spirit breakthrough during chapels, mealtimes, dorm devotions, in classes, and at sporting events.
I pray for more spiritual seismic shifts in alums, students, and our on-campus family! Let me know you’re also praying by sending a note to [email protected].
Prayerfully,
