It’s an annual tradition for the ladies of Evangel to gather each spring for Fashion Fever. This ladies-only event allows girls to dress up and come out for a night of runway walks, a guest speaker, delicious desserts and lots of fun. This year’s theme was Unveiled, which allowed us as girls to unveil ourselves from the masks that we often hide behind and to show our true beauty that we have in Christ.
There were about 50 models that walked the runway in outfits ranging from maxis to vintage inspired clothes. Between each segment prizes were given away and a video was played of how girls have been made new because of Christ working in their lives.
Once all the models walked the runway and got to show off their great outfits, we had Casey Gibbons, our guest speaker, come and talk to us about unveiling ourselves and being made new. Her words hit home with me and reminded me who I am created in and who is on my side. She talked about how we are daughters of the most high King and that we have been adopted into His family; it doesn’t matter where we came from or what our past holds because we are the daughters of the greatest Father. After a few tears, lots of laughter and an impromptu singing session, the night came to an end with tons of pictures being taken.
This event is unique, not only because it’s an all-girls event, but because it brings the ladies of Evangel together and unites us as one. There is no barrier of what dorm we are from, what we are wearing or what our story is because we ultimately share the vulnerability of sin and the need for a Savior. We are reminded that God came to heal our wounds, create us as new beings and unveil the beauty that He gave us. One of the girls in the video said it’s one thing to be told that you are beautiful and it’s another thing to embrace your beauty. She could not have said it any better that it is our choice to embrace what makes us beautiful and to set aside our height, weight, skin color and anything else that the world tells us defines beauty.
This is one of my favorite Evangel events, and I look forward to it each spring. Even the guys get a little jealous that they don’t get to see the girls all dressed up.
