The best five days at Evangel

October 1st, 2013 | Ian Richardson

At Evangel, pretty much every day has the potential to be awesome. But there are some days that, time and time again, are traditionally even more special than all the rest. So, with Homecoming Spirit Week upon us and some pretty fun days ahead, I’d like to share my Top 5 favorite special days on campus:

5. HarvestFest/SpringFling

Harvest Fest

HarvestFest and SpringFling are the biggest social events of the year.

I’m struggling to find the right words to describe HarvestFest and SpringFling — “costume-party-variety-show-concert-gameshow” maybe? These two student-run events — one in the fall and one in the spring — are unlike anything you’ll experience anywhere else. Even though these events take place in the evening, the entire day leading up to them is full of preparation and excitement.

4. Days with holiday buffets in the Caf

Students aren’t usually here over the holidays, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate while we are here. Some of the best days are when the dining hall serves up Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, complete with an assortment of some of the best desserts you’ll have all year. It makes the whole day awesome. And another good thing – there are leftovers for the rest of the week.

3. Homecoming Friday

Homecoming is a time of year that has a feeling all of its own. It’s one of those special times in which all of Evangel — present, past and future — converges on campus for a variety of events. This year, Friday means the final day of spirit week, President Spence speaking in Chapel, the EU’s Got Talent finals and the Evangel-wide pep rally. No shortage of excitement here.

2. Dead Day

Referred to as “Study Day” on the academic calendar, Dead Day is (despite the name) a pretty great day to be alive. On the day before final exams begin each semester, students receive an entire day to study. But the thing is, it’s impossible to study all day. So, Dead Day always means students are finding all sorts of fun ways to loosen up and beat the stress of impending exams.

You can’t beat homecoming at Evangel.

1. Homecoming Saturday

While Homecoming Friday is great, there’s just no day like game day. The 5k fun run, the tailgate party at the football stadium, the big game, the crowning of the Homecoming king and queen and all sorts of postgame celebrations make this quite possibly the most special Evangel day of the year.
