What does college mean for you?
October 22nd, 2013 | Shannyn Wong
We recently had our fall break here at Evangel, which means that I was able to sleep and relax. During this four-day break I watched a lot of Netflix, and I mean a lot.
During my Netflix coma, I was watching a series where several high school seniors were getting ready to graduate and begin college. Their weekly routine consisted of looking at colleges and writing application essays. As one of girls was typing out her essay, she was listing all the reasons why she wanted to go to college and what college meant to her. As I watched this scene play out, I was reminded what college means … possibilities. College brings the possibility of new beginnings, a future and change.
When you walk onto campus that first day, no one knows who you are or where you’ve been. College is a place where the starting line starts over and the future is up to you. There is a new set of cheerleaders in college who are cheering you on to the future you dream of.
This is the place where your goal to become a teacher, film director, or entrepreneur becomes a reality. Its the place where you are shaped into the person you always wanted to be. College can be the hardest thing you do as you go through the application process, the homework and the lack of sleep, but it will also be your greatest reward.
College is the place where you take full ownership of your success.
This is your moment to accept the challenge — and there will be challenges — face your fears, and embrace the possibilities that await you. College is an investment into who you are and how you will leave your mark on our world.
As a college senior who is now looking at the fleeting moments that are left, every late hour, every tear, every paper, every dollar and every memory has been well worth it.
So, I leave you with this: What are the possibilities that are waiting for you?
