Where are the best — and closest — off-campus eats?

March 12th, 2014 | Christina Jeter

Even with a full meal plan on campus, chances are you will not always eat in the cafeteria or the Joust. You’ll want to dine out with friends or grab a quick weekend meal and head back to the dorm. Either way, you’ll want to know what’s close by, so here are five favorite food stops near Evangel — most within walking distance.

Taco Bell

I’m not personally a fan, but T-Bell is located directly across the street from campus. The combination of easy access, late hours, and uber cheap menu make T-Bell a campus favorite. You are almost guaranteed to friends making late night trips to T-Bell, especially on weekends!

Pacific Kitchen

Not a fan of the tex-mex? No worries. Right down the street and across from Panda Express, Pacific Kitchen is a much cheaper option for those inclined to Asian cuisine. The portion sizes are large and the food is delicious. Sweet and Sour Chicken, anyone? Students often refer to the place as “PK,” so if you’re friends are headed on a PK run, they’re off to Pacific Kitchen!

London Calling

London CallingThe guy who runs this “food truck” option is actually from England. The truck—more of a London bus actually—is located in a parking lot down the street. “London Calling” serves pasties filled with all sorts of deliciousness. My favorite is the chicken pot pie pasty, but there are a variety of types for all sorts of tastes, including a vegetarian option.

Kai Sushi Lounge

Kai is a sushi place in downtown Springfield. While not the cheapest or nearest food stop, Kai offers a Wednesday college night with half-price sushi options. As a special midweek treat, groups of students often swarm Kai. And you might find yourself in one of these groups!

Thai Express

Although a little farther from Evangel, Thai Express is still located on Glenstone Ave. Thai Express offers a variety of Thai food, including Pad Thai and Chicken Curry, at a decent price. They also serve an absolutely delicious Thai tea.

If you grow tired of the cafeteria or Joust, no worries! Late night food runs and weekend outings are perfect opportunities to bond with your roommate, floormates or classmates. And Springfield is filled with a crazy variety of food options, so your tastebuds will never suffer from boredom.
