Students interested in speech, drama and oral interpretation are often involved with the Evangel Forensics Team. The students participate in intercollegiate competition in categories such as oratory, readers’ theatre, dramatic readings, impromptu speaking and others. Students may participate by volunteering or by taking the 1 credit course which provides students opportunities to develop advanced performance skills in speech, drama and oral interpretation of literature.
The Evangel Intercollegiate Forensics Team allows students to use their verbal communication skills through competition with colleges and universities in Missouri, neighboring states, and in national and international tournaments. The team participates in four to six tournaments each year. Students may compete in two or three events in two categories:

The forensics team consistently excels in state competition sponsored by the Missouri Association of Forensic Activities and at invitational tournaments.
All students are eligible to join the team. After a year of participation, most students qualify to become members of Pi Kappa Delta, the national honor speech fraternity. Performance scholarships are available to students who qualify and audition. Dr. Mark Kelton is the faculty adviser.
“Forensics improves overall self-esteem, allowing participants to use criticism for improvement.”
