My name is Brian Breeden, and I am currently the Director of Operations for the Clever R-V School District. Starting July 1st, 2022, I will be taking over the superintendent position for Clever.
What brought you to Evangel?
I remember my parents telling stories about Evangel and their experiences graduating from the education program from an early age. As I entered high school, I knew that I wanted to pursue an education degree, and Evangel was my number one choice. It felt like home after visiting the campus, and I knew God was calling me there.
Fast forward to 2015, I was looking for options to start my doctorate. I was working as an administrator and needed flexibility with my degree program. I saw a post online saying that Evangel would be starting a second doctoral cohort. I went to an open house and was excited about the format of having a hybrid schedule of online and seated classes. I decided to start the program, and I began that summer. It was a fantastic experience, and I would recommend it for educators looking for an EdD degree.
How did you know that Education was your calling?
From a young age, I felt God was leading me toward being a teacher. I wanted to become a teacher to have the same impact that my teachers had on me. Growing up, I had several excellent teachers and coaches that inspired me. Looking back, it is incredible the relationships and opportunities that have opened through being a part of this great profession.
How have you seen God present through your educational journey and career?
Every day God presents us with opportunities, and it takes being obedient to him to help direct our life. No matter what position you currently serve, do it to the fullest. Our actions will speak louder than anything that we can say. I feel that is how God has been present throughout my career. God has a plan no matter the circumstance and will open doors no matter how difficult it may seem.
What would you say to a student considering coming to Evangel and pursuing a degree in Education?
The world needs passionate educators ready to take on the current challenges. Evangel not only prepares students for these challenges but continues to support them throughout their journey. My former professors have personally encouraged me throughout my career, and I can always reach out for advice. When you attend Evangel, you become part of its family and will leave feeling prepared for the classroom.
