Tell us about your career and what you do now.

NewStream is a value-added warehouse organization that manages supply chain solutions. We specialize in packaging, kitting, sub-assembly and distribution. We package a wide variety of material from large diesel truck parts to ATM banking equipment. I have been with NSE (NewStream) for 14 years. I have responsibility for two locations, one in Joliet IL and the plant in Springfield which is right across the street from Evangel. The company has grown to over 350+ associates.

What is your favorite memory from Evangel?

I guess if I had to put it down to a few particular things it would have to be the people. I made some long lasting friendships in my years at Evangel. The teachers really care about your professional development. That really helps get me through the busy times.

How did Evangel help you identify/develop your calling?

I would have to say that the learning environment at EU and the set up on the Adult studies program opened my eyes to few things. The teamwork of the cohort sessions really showed me the importance of team operations. My cohort was full of working adults that were attending class after working for 40-50 hours at their job. It was great how everyone helped each other out. If you missed a class due to a sick child or work, someone would always have notes to share with you. I think if you talk to a few of my cohort members they would tell you that we graduated together! I started to really enjoy working with teams. I think this is what lead me on my career path of leadership. I really wanted to be a part of something bigger and try to make a positive impact on people lives.

How did your experience at Evangel prepare you for life after graduation?

Since I was an adult studies student life was already going full swing for me. Evangel did, however, change my life, the skills and knowledge I learned during my time there helped advance me in my career. To be honest I still have one of my accounting books in the desk drawer that I use from time to time!

What advice would you give a current student preparing for the workforce?

I know it’s an old saying but Knowledge really is powerful, the more you know the better you can help others, don’t stop learning! Do what you love, going to work every day is much easier when you are passionate about what you do. That is what really makes the difference from a job and a career. Also, check out the Molly Fletcher Company, they published a short article on “10 Things that take Zero Talent”. I personally feel like these ten short attitudes combined with your education, you can do anything you want!

What would you look for if you were in a position to hire new graduates from Evangel?

Be passionate! 7 out of 10 resumes will meet the education requirements. You need to set yourself apart from the rest. Get involved in clubs and organizations while you are in school. We really look for these extra activities on resumes.
