Tell us about your career and what you do now.

I am currently a first-year (1L) law student at Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, VA. I am studying a wide variety of subjects, such as Civil Procedure, Torts, Property, Contracts, and Legal Research. It is such a privilege to study law in a school that puts Christ at the center, much like Evangel. Although studying keeps me very busy, I also have the privilege of serving as a 1L class representative for Regent’s Student Bar Association.

What is your favorite memory from Evangel?

That’s a tough one! Evangel holds a special place in my heart, and I made so many great memories. I especially enjoyed participating in the Washington Studies Program. Not only did I develop lasting friendships and have the opportunity to tour the White House, the Supreme Court, and the State Department, but I also interned for a week in Congressman Jason Smith’s office. This experience gave me valuable insight into how Congress functions. Another Evangel experience that was particularly memorable was Fashion Fever. I attended all four years, and it was always a special time of spiritual nourishment and fellowship with the women of Evangel.

How did Evangel help you identify/develop your calling?

When I first stepped foot on Evangel’s campus as a prospective student, I felt an overwhelming sense of peace, and I knew that God was leading me there. Evangel gave me many valuable opportunities to explore areas of interest relating to Government. I was very involved with the Pre-Law Society, Student Government Association (Senate), Walther Hall Council, and College Republicans. Being a part of these organizations not only helped me explore areas of interest and developed my leadership skills but also helped me give back to Evangel and invest in the lives of my fellow classmates.

How did your experience at Evangel prepare you for life after graduation?

Evangel prepared me well for the academic rigors of law school. Thanks to the excellent education I received in Evangel’s Behavioral and Social Sciences Department, I already had some experience writing case briefs, outlining courses, and participating in mock trials, and these skills played a large role in my success in law school. In addition, the friendships I developed at Evangel have been a constant encouragement throughout the pressures of law school.

What advice would you give a current student preparing for the workforce?

First, always remember to prioritize your relationship with God. When life becomes busy, it’s all too easy to neglect devotional time, prayer, and church. However, the Bible tells us to seek first the Kingdom of God, and it has been my experience that if I am faithful to put Him first, He will always give me enough time to finish everything else. Second, maintain a healthy work-life balance. Life isn’t all about work, and you’ll be much happier if you take time to rest, fellowship with others, and discover some hobbies. Trust me. Finally, strive for excellence, not perfection. Trying to be perfect will only lead to discouragement and burnout. Prepare diligently and do your best, then trust God to bless your efforts.

What would you look for if you were in a position to hire new graduates from Evangel?

I would look for someone with initiative, a person who sees a need, brainstorms answers, and implements an effective solution. I would also look for someone who is trustworthy and dependable. Finally, I would look for someone who exhibits a teachable attitude.
