Brandon Schmidly, Ph.D.

Brandon Schmidly came to Evangel Unviersity in 2007 and serves as Professor of Philosophy. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Missouri, with specialization in ethics and social-political philosophy. He also has interests in epistemology and philosophy of religion. He teaches courses in logic, ethics, and philosophy at both the graduate and undergraduate level. He has also taught courses in interdisciplinary studies. In 2013, Schmidly was the recipient of the Mills Young Faculty Award. He served as Evangel’s Theology Department Chair in 2012-2013 and from 2016-2023. He is co-editor of the book Christian Morality, An Interdisciplinary Framework for Thinking about Contemporary Moral Issues (Pickwick 2016) He serves on the Board for the Springfield Pregnancy Care Center and is a faithful member of James River Church in Ozark. He was the organizer and host of the 2016 Midwest Conference for the Society of Christian Philosophers and facilitated a regular grant from the Institute for Humane Studies for student-focused inquiry on religious freedom. Prior to teaching, Schmidly served in multiple pastoral and church leadership roles from 1998-2005.
