Welcome to our website. Evangel has been training fine teachers for more than 4 decades. Every year we work hard to assess and review our programs so that we are effectively preparing teachers for today’s world. Job Responsibilities: Teach courses in reading and math education, teach graduate courses in reading and coordinate the graduate reading program, sponsor Student Missouri State Teachers Association, work with Partners in Education schools, advise undergraduate and graduate students.

Favorite Thing About Work: The people. You cannot find better people anywhere!! My goal is to prepare excellent teachers. Our students come with such wonderful preparation and are so easy to mentor. The faculty is professional and well-prepared. The faculty in the Education Department work as a team to create a highly productive teacher preparation program. We are also the most fun department on campus!!!

Favorite Memory as a Student: Cannot name just one–The old dormitories, Dorm 56, meeting my husband, my great lifetime friends, caring professors, Harvest Festival, chapel services, college chorale

Personal Information: Husband: Dr. Duane Huechteman, also an Evangel professor. I have two sons: Eric and Brett (married to Melissa Aycock Huechteman). Both of my sons graduated from Evangel.

I now have twin granddaughters (Brett and Melissa’s girls) who have totally changed my life!! I love to read and teach children to love to read. I love music and am active in our church’s music program. My calling is to inspire young teachers to be the best they can be.
In May of 2011 and 2013 I lead a group of students on a missions/service trip to the Navajo Nation in New Mexico. We spent time working with teachers and students in an Indian Bureau school. It was an amazing experience!!

Other: Workshop and seminar presenter on following topics: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Motivating children to learn, effective teaching strategies. Hosted a summer Literacy Conference with Springfield Schools for about 8 years
