Currently, Dr. Shonna Crawford is enjoying her 11th year here at Evangel University where she invests in future teachers, educators working toward Reading Specialist certification, and doctoral students writing dissertations. Dr. Crawford serves as chair of Evangel’s Education Department. Most recently, she was recognized by Springfield Business Journal as one of Springfield’s 20 Most Influential Women in 2021 for her commitment to ongoing community service and leadership. While earning her Ph.D. in Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum with an emphasis in Literacy and Early Childhood from the University of Missouri, Shonna was awarded the Gary Moorman Outstanding Graduate Student Research Paper Award from American Reading Forum. Additionally, Dr. Crawford received Evangel University’s Orville and Jewel Mills Young Faculty Award and was included in the 2017 class of 40 Under 40 by Springfield Business Journal. Dr. Crawford loves leading students alongside her husband, Michael, on international service trips focused on education. Her experiences as an elementary teacher, reading specialist, literacy coach, professional development presenter, educational leader, and mom to two teenagers, Gavin and Aubree, bring her ongoing joy and abundant blessings. Shonna most enjoys building positive relationships and empowering educators to impact the next generation of world-changers.
