Susan Smith

Mrs. Susan Smith, Associate Professor of Music at Evangel University, has taught at Evangel since 1980 in the areas of applied voice, class voice, diction, solo literature, vocal pedagogy and music history. She also taught at Central Bible College. Mrs. Smith received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Oral Roberts University and a Master’s degree in Music Education from MSU. She has had a widely varied musical performance career, including radio, television and recording. She sang with the World Action Singers of Oral Roberts University on nationally syndicated television programs, appearing with performers such as Jimmy Durante, Bobby Goldsboro, Pat Boone, Roy Clark, Della Reese, Johnny Mathis and Lou Rawls. She and her husband traveled with Living Sound, International, singing in the U. S., Canada, Eastern and Western Europe, England, Scotland, Israel and South Africa. She also served as Minister of Music at Bethel Temple Assembly of God in Hayward, California, before coming to Evangel. She has been a soloist in many of the Evangel Music Department’s concerts, and has appeared as soloist with Messiah Project. In addition to faculty recitals at Evangel and Central Bible College, she has given numerous recitals in the Springfield area. Dr. Linda Ligate (Evangel piano faculty member) and Mrs. Smith collaborated to present a lecture/recital on Psalmody as Art Song at Evangel, Central Bible College and Oklahoma Wesleyan College. She served as secretary/treasurer of the Ozarks chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing for over 15 years and is vice president and past president of Beta Mu chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She has served as adjudicator for district music contests for the Springfield Public Schools and for both District and National Fine Arts Festivals for the Assemblies of God. Mrs. Smith and her husband travel internationally conducting music and drama workshops and ministering in music and drama. Both were featured at the 2003 General Council of the Assemblies of God in Washington, D. C. The Smiths have one son, Andrew.

Mrs. Smith is a licensed minister with the Assemblies of God and currently serves as Women’s Ministries Pastor at Freedom City Church in Springfield.
