EU Marching Band performs in Christmas parade

The EU Marching Band added another first to the list of performances during this, its inaugural year at Evangel University. The 100-member band marched in its first parade — the Springfield Christmas Parade — on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 10, 2011.

“Feedback has been amazing,” said Dr. Michael Kolstad, chair of the department of music. “One of the judges sent this note:”

“The Evangel University Marching Band just rocked the house at the Springfield Christmas parade! That’s how you do it, kids: big sound, big music, big joy; all very well executed. It seems that every other marching band on the planet talks about pride… Well, the Evangel University Marching Band actually has it. BRAVO!,” said Kelly O’Bryant.

This year’s theme was “Rockin’ Around the Square.” The annual parade featured more than 60 floats and 10 local marching bands winding throughout downtown Springfield and ending up at Jordan Valley Park.

“From the great new uniforms to the complex cadences, our program generated a great amount of ‘buzz’ for Evangel,” Kolstad added.
