Evangel University TESOL students to volunteer at ESL Family Night in Willard

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A group of eight TESOL students from Evangel University will volunteer to assist with Willard Public Schools’ annual ESL Family Night on Wednesday, April 25.

TESOL stands for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. ESL stands for English as a Second Language and refers to those students and families whose native language is one other than English.

At the Family Night event, Evangel’s TESOL students will gain experience working with families of different cultures, and some students who are languages majors may get the chance to practice their interpreting skills.

“Willard only has three ESL staff, so the EU help will give them extra hands that night as all of the ESL families come,” said Jennifer Morrison, assistant professor of English and coordinator of Evangel’s TESOL program. “For Evangel, it is an opportunity for students to interact with families from a variety of cultures.”
