SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Dr. Frederick Drake is the 2012 recipient of the E.M. and Estella Clark Award for Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship and Service.

The award, which includes a framed certificate and cash grant, was presented on May 4 during Evangel’s commencement ceremony.

Drake serves as a professor of education. He joined the Evangel faculty in 1998, following 18 years as a teacher at Hickory Hills Middle School in Springfield.

“I feel very honored to be a representative of the great teaching that occurs every day on the Evangel campus,” Drake said. “It is a privilege to teach here, and the students and my colleagues make every day a real joy for me.”

The Clark Award was established by Dan and Elaine Johnson in 1991 to recognize her parents’ work on behalf of higher education in the Assemblies of God. Students, faculty and staff nominate recipients of this award and a committee makes the final decision.

“The Clark family has been very supportive of Evangel University, and I appreciate their efforts to reward good teaching, scholarship and community service on our campus,” Drake said.

Drake holds an Ed.D. in educational administration from the University of Missouri—Columbia, an Ed.S. in educational administration from Southwest Missouri State University, a master’s degree in biology from the University of Missouri—Columbia and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Drury University.

His job responsibilities at EU include teaching classes in the education department and in the graduate college. He also is the director of certification for the university.

Drake holds membership in many professional organizations including the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Middle School Association, the Missouri Middle School Association and Missouri Professors of Educational Administration.
