SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Evangel University Social Work program will host a volunteer fair from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., this Thursday, Sept. 13, in the Cantrell Student Union.

“This will be a one-stop shop for students seeking places to volunteer in our community,” said Lacey Nunnally, social work program director. “There will be 10 agencies present representing a variety of community needs.”

Junior social work major Maria McKinny experienced the fair last year.

“Volunteering last year was such a great experience. Getting involved in the community and making connections is so important,” McKinny said. “While at Evangel, we are taught and encouraged to incorporate our Christian values in all we do, and volunteering is a great way to do this.”

According to Nunnally, most of the agencies have witnessed a significant decrease in grant funding, so they rely on a strong volunteer base.

“Community agencies love Evangel students. They find a high level of dependability and commitment among our students,” Nunnally said.

Organizations attending the fair include the following:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Boys & Girls Club
  • Harmony House
  • International Ministries: Global AIDS Partnership
  • Isabel’s House
  • Pregnancy Care Center
  • Ronald McDonald House
  • Seasons Hospice
  • Children’s Divisions: Spontaneous Volunteers
  • Meals a Million
