Evangel donates baskets to Weller Elementary

Published on Nov 5, 2012 by Jennifer Hall

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The faculty and staff of Evangel University donated nine themed baskets that were raffled at the annual Weller Elementary carnival, “October Rocks,” on Friday, Oct. 12.

The raffle raised $318 for the school’s PTA.

The Evangel University Education Department has collected baskets for Weller’s carnival for the past four years. Various departments throughout the Evangel campus put together the creatively-themed baskets.

“The raffle was a huge success,” said John Cameron, Weller PTA president. “Over 200 people attended.”

“I really appreciate the time and resources people have spent on creating the baskets,” said Debra Yonke, associate professor of education.

Weller is Evangel’s Partners in Education and Teacher Education Alliance partner school. Through the TEA program, Evangel education students are assigned to teach and connect with the Weller students.

“It’s more than donations,” said Marilyn Monroe, Weller’s principal. “Evangel has reached out and connected with the students at Weller.”
